PAST AND PRESENT

By Elece Hollis

Learn from the past, make the most of the present, and prepare for the future. With this month’s celebratory meeting we hope to do all three. We want to look back and see some of the history of FCW, including meeting some of the persons who founded the group.

We’ll look at our present situation and discuss our plans for the future. It will be an exciting time for area FCW members who can come to celebrate 30 years of Christian writing with us. Bring along friends interested in writing. We’ll be enjoying a salad supper together and a great time of fun and fellowship, as well as an inspirational speech from Suzie Eller to encourage us.

In May, we were blessed to have Margaret Daley visit and speak about Christian fiction writing. We learned from her presentation some fiction techniques to improve our writing. She talked about the niche she writes for—Christian suspense and romance.

Margaret shared how she bases her stories on issues, such as racism, prostitution, or child abuse, and on overcoming disabilities, which she feels strongly needs to be addressed and how story can be the right vehicle for that. We look forward to her coming again to give us another teaching session soon.
