| PAST AND PRESENT

By Elece Hollis
Here it is again, at long last—spring in Oklahoma. We’ve seen a bit of warm weather and
plenty of chilly days with so much wind, I often run out to pull down my tinkling wind
chimes. This weekend, I have enjoyed the cloudy skies and thunderstorms. After surviving
dust-filled drought years, rain is always welcome in Oklahoma!
My redbud tree, forsythia, and fruit trees are all blooming—purple, yellow, white, and
pink above the new green like so many Easter eggs. Tulips, iris, hyacinths, pansies, and yellow daffodils
should inspire all of us to write.
I had the privilege of speaking for the Tulsa FCW meeting last month, and I hope I inspired the nineteen
people in attendance to read and write. I spoke about the Bible, the book every writer needs most, not only on
his desk, but in his mind and heart. The Bible is our foremost reference book, a collection of great writing
samples, and the message of those pages can help us write something worth reading. Commit to read your Bible
every day. It will improve your writing.
Several of us are heading to Girard, Kansas, this month, expecting a beneficial and fun conference as always.
April’s meeting will be our annual “Night of Sharing” when we get to hear each other’s writings. Last
month, we welcomed three new members into the Tulsa group! You come join us too. We look forward to seeing
you there.
